-Lettre du 4 avril 1796 (de Venise): “Sopra le Terme Romane con una fontana appresso: Nymphis Loci. Bibe, Lava, Tace. In una medaglia della famiglia Vinicia ad Augusto per la riparazion delle strade: Caesari Augusto Quod Viae Munitae Sunt. Dopo queste brevi mie riflessioni, giudicate se quella lunga ampollosità nè chiara nè latina della vostra mandatami, possa esser ridotta da me allo stil Lapidario. Io la ripongo tra le quisquilie dell'Agro Romano, ed auguro all'amico un esemplare di buone Lapidi, su cui tenti una riforma alla sua depravazione. Un uomo che ha sul tavolino Grutero, Reinesio, Maffei, Muratori, Oderico, Zaccaria ec.; può farla da Areopagita, anche lontano dal Campidoglio. Addio » (Rubbi 1796, p. 143-144, lettre 193).
