Lettre du 7 avril 1765 (de Paris) : « Si le hasard vous faisait trouver quelque belle pierre grecque qui représentât un sujet avec le nom du graveur, ou ne l’ayant pas (il y a quelquefois des gens qui s’en dégoûtent ou qui sont bien aise d’avoir autre chose), je vous prierais de m’en mander le prix et de m’en envoyer l’empreinte ; votre choix me suffirait. Je pourrais aussi placer quelques belles têtes de relief, mais ces monuments ne soutiennent pas la médiocrité » (Nisard 1877, lettre n° CXXVII, p. 111).
