Lettre du 3 avril 1557 (de Rome): "Alla vostra di 26 di Marzo mi par veder quelle tante medaglie che mi significate così a pieno; pure mi rincresce, che siano di così bassi imperatori. Quella di Decio giovane dubito se si legge come voi scrivete. Q. Her. Etr. Mess. Decius: overo Q. Herc. TR. Mess. Decius; perchè non ci essendo punti, è ambiguo l’un e l’altro: e con quel TR. voglio significar il nome di Trajano avuto dal suo padre, più presto che Etruscus dalla madre Herennia Etruscilla, se quella che si trova in medaglie è madre di questo giovane. Non so se con libri, o con altre medaglie chiarirete questa ambiguità. In altre medaglie si trova C. Valens Hostil. Mes. Quintus Aug. Le medaglie di Macriano e Quieto è cosa rara, mandateci dunque un impronto depinto o di solfo come vi piacerà. Quella Diva Mariniana non è rara a noi, benchè non sapiamo chi sia. La varietà di conj in tante medaglie d’un imperator è ben cosa grande; pure il medesimo si vede nelle altre medaglie antiche, che rara cosa è due medaglie esser in tutto simili. Forse che son poche quelle che si vedono in comparatione di tanta infinità come si facevano. Nè mi è verisimile, che un conio servisse per sola una medaglia. Non ho parlato a M. Pyrrho (Ligorio). Io gli leggerò vostra lettera, e vi farò intender il parer suo. V. S. dia le mie recommandationi a M. Hannibal Caro, che ben che non ci abbiamo communicato troppo, ho molte cagioni di essermi caro lui, è per mezzo vostro" ; Post-scriptum: "Mandovi la memoria delle medaglie che mi mancano, se qualcuna vi viene per le mani mandatemela" (Andrés 1804, Lettre IV, p. 257-259).
