Grand documentOriginal passage from the "Grand document".

Lettre du 1 janvier 1679 (de Padoue) : « Erubescerem profecto si elegantissimis tuis litteris italice respondere tentarem» (Surely I would blush if I tried to respond to your elegant letters in Italian); «If you are eager to buy coins, I can be helpful to you. First, send me a catalogue of the coins you own: I will easily see what you do not have, what I can get you, at what price and always with honest conditions»; « Nummos colligis, bene et optime facis; plus enim voluptatis ex illis accepturus est quam quibuslibet monetis recentioribus, dublons vocant”; he was preparing a new book for which he was studying more than 6,000 coins and cutting their pictures. The work was in progress and he thought he would finish it in a few months of hard work: then he decided to add more information about each coin because in the past some scholars had voiced doubts about the authenticity of what he described in his books (Padova, Museo Bottacin, MB 855, c. [1] ; voir Calegari 2020).
