Grand documentOriginal passage from the "Grand document".
Lettre du 18 juillet 1680 (de Padoue) : it is now possible to understand the reason for the presence of a number of copies of Patin’s book Familiae Romanae in antiquis numismatibus with only the engravings of the coins without the text. Patin in fact sent Averoldi a copy of the libellus of Familiae Romanae, explaining that it was not the book published in Paris in 1662, but a different edition. In fact, Patin decided to print some copies with only the plates of the book, because many scholars and collectors had only asked for such as a repertory of coin images (Padova, Museo Bottacin, MB 855, c. [22] ; voir Callegari 2020).
