Detailed, tabulated catalogue of coins and medals, arranged geographically and within that by ruler. 1609 medals are said to be listed. Following the main catalogue, as a summary list, is "An account of other medals in my possession March the 1st, 1769", some of which are said to be "described in separate papers"; the grand total is said to be 5212. Finally come notes recording subsequent purchases of coins and medals, in April and May 1769, and of the packing up of some 1915 items in the collection.
Sewn together as a quire, subsequently strengthened along the spine. Contained within a folder with gilt lettering reading Winchester Cathedral Library. Catalogues of the Coins, and with a label inside, dated April 1899, referring to two catalogues of coins found in the Chapter Room in 1899 and 1897, the former apparently the original catalogue sent with the cabinet of coins, the latter made by Dr Nott; both said to be bound and placed together in this case, but the latter is no longer present.
The coins listed in the catalogue were apparently brought to England from Aleppo, Syria, by a member of the Eyre family, following which they were added to the coin collection assembled by William Eyre, bequeathed to Winchester Cathedral on his death in 1764. The Winchester collection, of which the coins listed here seemingly form the whole or greater part of the classical portion, was purchased from the cathedral by the University of Leeds in 1954.
