-Lettre du 21 sept. 1652 : anecdote d’une médaille retouchée en présence de Gottifredi puis échangée avec un français de passage à Rome et finalement publiée comme vraie par Tristan de Saint-Amand : « quanto a quella con Hercole che amazza il cavallo, quale ha stampata il Tristano, le dico che tal medaglia fu già mia et io perché l’hebbi quando usci dalla terra la diedi a Domenico Merolla … quale une mattina in mia presentia fece col bollino l’hidra, il toro et quanto ci è, perché non si scopriva se non un cavallo e perché poi tal medaglia non mi piaceva, cambiai con alcune altre con un francese chef u in Roma 14 o 15 anni sono, dal quale credo l’abbia hauta Tristano, quale da quella e d’alcune altre mi sono accorto che non distingue le medaglie falsificate dalle si vere » (voir Missere Fontana 2009, p. 266, note 202).
