-Lettre du 18 juillet 1739 (de Rome): “Sono 24 anni che Io gli fui il p.° Direttore o Maestro; ma col suo gran genio mi ha di molto superato, stante anche che ha quella gran rarità di beni di fortuna, non concessa a noi altri poveri curiosi. Io gli diedi un’Urnetta della famiglia Gellia, che per l’eccellenza dello scolpitore, me la feci delineare, e VS. Ill.ma più di me potrebbe far risaltare le note, che così piacendogli, le mandarei il disegno senza spesa di porto, e q.o solam.te per eternare detto Mylord ne li scritti. So che ha acquistato il bel cameo dell’Arca di Noé, che abbiamo nelle medaglie greche ed è bell’ornamento al Tesoro delle di lui gemme lavorate, che pari non sono in tutta l’Inghliterra” (Firenze, Biblioteca Marucelliana, BVII, 11, f° 154r-v – online).
