Grand documentOriginal passage from the "Grand document".
Lettre du 11 mai 1740 (de Den Haag) : Abstract : He tells O. of his excursions at Rotterdam (some good books and medals) and tomorrow to Leyden with the same object, where he craves O’s. instructions and a letter to M. Burmann, your friend, which will guarantee a welcome. He would like to have the news of the literary doings at Florence; O’s. letter will find him at Prof. Havercamp’s as he wants to study books and medals. Gori and Maffei continue to tear each other to pieces, Gori being especially vehement who does not take into account that in this wretched world everyone has his faults and virtues. (Oxford, Bodleian Library, MS D’Orville 487, f° 198-199).
