-Lettre du 10 mars 1743 (de Pesaro) : "Che dite amico caro del genio di coloro che studiando l’antichità e volendo spendere in far musei son sempre d’attorno a quelle medaglie che si trovano dappertutto, e son sempre le stesse in tutti i libri? A me pare che per pensare da italiano si debba pensare a scuoprire e andare innanzi con pubblicar cose nuove, e cavarne que’ lumi che possano accrescere le cognizioni appartenenti ai costumi ed alle arti degl’antichi. Oh se io potessi per quattro soli mesi starmene un poco in pace in Roma, ed avessi ancora quel che non ho, un poco di danaro da spendere, troverei io ben il modo di acquistare in gran copia di queste cose che colà non si curano, perché forse non s’intendono. » (Firenze, Biblioteca Marucelliana, BVII, 24, f° 136r-137r – online).
