-Lettre du 10 septembre 1714 (de Deventer) : « J’ai reçu depuis peu une liste des plus rares médailles du monde et une ancienne inscription, qui en vaut au moins vingt autres. C’est Mr. le consul de la Grande-Bretagne à Smyrne, qui m’honore de ce présent, où il y a même des villes dont nous ne connaissons pas le nom. Il y aussi une médaille où on lit le nom d’Homère, j’en parlerai dans mes Remarques sur l’explication de Mr. Schott, et j’y prouverai par d’autres, que ce poète se voit quelquefois demi-nu sur ces monuments anciens » (Cuper 1743 XLVIII, p. 160-161).
