Lettre du 26 septembre 1735 (d’Arnhem) : After lamenting illness of his children, and the threat of his little boy’s loss of his other eye, he describes with gusto the results of his investigation of the abundant historical monuments at Domburg on the island of Wallachia, i.e., stones, statues, coins, tokens. (He describes some of the coins); he was permitted to bring away whatever he wanted to include in his commentary, such as pictures and coins. He explains the lay out of his work which he hopes will please the reader. He repeats a friend’s bitter complaint of the booksellers whom he had commissioned to buy at Le Clerc’s auction, four collations of Orosius and Le Clerc’s notes mentioned in the catalogue.
