'[The King] I hear is guided in these sort of things by Dalton and some others, who, no doubt, will endeavour to get the whole management of that sort into their own hands. ... That Dalton, who was sent into Italy not long ago ... and who, by order of Lord Bute, bought some modern medals (of Stosch) for the King, was, I am told, on the point of returning into Italy to make other purchases for His Majesty, when the late King’s death happened.'
