-Lettre du 31 janvier 1685 (Lyon) : « J’acheve s’il plait à Dieu mes Miscellanea Erud[itæ] Antiquit.[atis] [23] ce mois de mars. Ce sera un in f[oli]o d’une centaine de feuilles : et je me divertis presentement à écrire en notre langue quelques vies des hommes illustres de l’antiquité [24] qui ne sont pas dans Plutarque comme Homere, Virgile, Epaminondas, Corbulon, Hannibal, Scipion, Denys, Hipocrate, Galien, Epicure. Si vous en avez quelque belle à m’indiquer, et me dire où en prendre les materiaux vous m’obligerés infiniment. J’en prendrai quelques unes de Diogene Laerce que j’etendrai un peu plus » (Lettre n° 382).
