'Yesterday in digging ye foundation for King’s new building, about 6 foot under ground, ye Labourers found a parcel of golden Medals, covered by an arch of church(?), & some human bones near ’em; ye Bursar has in his possession 64 of ym, & tis supposed there might be 100 in all: they are very fresh, & answer exactly ye Inscription Mr Thoresby gicves of ye golden royal medal of Edward ye 3d, struck in 1360, representing him standing completely armed in ye middle of a Ship at sea, holding a sword in his right hand, a shield wth ye arms of England & France in his left, ye royal standard arbord & displaid at ye stern, wth a E in it. The Inscription EDWARD DI GRA REX ANGL Z FRANC DNS IB. The Inscription on ye Reverse IhS AVT TRANSIENS PER MEDIUM ILLORV IBAT.
