Lettre du 1 septembre 1756 (de Rome) : « Je n’ai rien de nouveau à vous apprendre. Je / continue mes recherches sur les médailles : ma moisson augmente de jour en jour. Venise fournira ; d’autres villes par où je passerai paieront aussi leur contribution. Je commence à être un peu plus satisfait de mon voyage ; car je vous avouerai ma faiblesse. Je l’ai maudit cent fois, et cent fois je me suis repenti d’avoir occasionné une dépense inutile » (Sérieys 1802, lettre n° XXIX, p. 162).
