Lettre sans date ( ?) : sur l’achat de la collection Pellerin : « J’ai toujours dit que ce cabinet porterait à un très haut point de perfection celui du roi ; j’ai dit que l’acquistion en serait infiniment utile, mais je n’ai jamais eu occasion de m’expliquer sur le prix ; j’observai seulement une fois à M. de Malesherbes qu’après avoir vu le roi d’Espagne donner quatre-vingt mille livres d’une suite de médailles d’argent, estimée en France quarante mille livres, je ne serais pas surpris que quelque puissance étrangère offrit les cent mille écus que M.
