-Lettre du 31 (sic!) juin 1757 (de Rome): «Lo studio delle Medaglie non è toccato fin’adesso per conoscervi lo stile e per supplire la scala delle notizie che ci mancano. I sensi de ‘Letterati pigliano non so che di callo e indifferenti a quello che gli offre la Natura vanno ritracciando il rimoto e astruso. O se Ella vedesse la testa di Proserpina in alcune Med. d’arg. di Siracusa! Che bellezza sovrumana, discesa dal cielo e impossibile a concepirsi nella fantasia moderna. Vi si riconosce la sorgente della bellezza, Iddio, e lo spirito si solleva fino al Creatore» (Rehm I 1952, n° 178, p. 288; Callataÿ 2007, p. 592).
