Grand documentOriginal passage from the "Grand document".
Lettre du 20 février 1770 (de York): He thanks P. for his approval of his reply to the medallist concerning the coin described in p.49 above which he says may properly be called a consular coin. He finds no trace of serrated coins in Fulvius Ursinus’ treatise of Roman family coins. He discusses the earliest date when medals were struck and has a comment on consular coins. Among further points he states that he has added to his reply to the medallist, and that it had best be put into the Gent. Mag., and therefore he asks P. when he has perused it to send it direct to the printer. He says incidentally he has never seen Goltzius’ nor Hardouin’s account of the coins of cities. (Oxford, Bodleian Library, MS Add. C. 244 p. 55).
