Grand documentOriginal passage from the "Grand document".

-Lettre du 23 juin 1774 (de Lapal House, West Midlands): He apologises for writing to him so immediately after his mother’s death, but he must write now to warn him to he on his guard against a Jew who had been with him last Tuesday who deals in medals. He describes the man’s appearance, garb, and insolent behaviour. He had turned him away, and warns N. urgently in case he calls; but if he does wishes N. to procure any Roman silver coins he may have, provided he can have them at the rate of 7 shillings per oz. if the inscriptions are legible. After turning him out he had second thoughts that the Jew was an ignorant man and might unknowingly carry silver coins of value. (Oxford, Bodleian Library, MS Eng. misc. d. 146, f° 31).
