Grand documentOriginal passage from the "Grand document".
-Lettre de mai 1777 (de Lapal House, West Midlands): He congratulates him on his admission into the Law: he is obliged for the coins and medals N. had sent him, and goes into detail about those he is retaining (le of the Roman, 2 or 3 of the others) and those he is returning for various specified reasons, among them the denarii of which he already possesses a large supply. He is arranging his collection of Roman emperors. He mentions that counterfeit coins are increasing. He returns Vol. 2 of Wraxall’s entertaining memoirs and tour. Among his medals has N. ones of Catharine and Mary de Medici? He is retaining N’s old brass medals for a cleaning. Mrs. N’s ivy-leaved geranium is in beautiful flower within doors. He appends a priced list of coins which N. had sent him, and the total cash (19/6). He details a number of coins he wants to have. (Oxford, Bodleian Library, MS Eng. misc. d. 147, f° 76 a, b).
