'In ‘A Dissertation on the Coines of Cassibelin & Cynobelin & explication of Tascio, SGS, 1 Nov. 1739, by M. Johnson,’ Johnson pointed out that it was not likely that ancient British coins were made by Roman mint masters since "all which I have or have Seen of this Sort in the Cotton Collection ABps Sharpes, Mr Thoresbys Capt Pownals Mr Avery Wagstaffs or any other being of a Size between the Denarius and the Quirinius [sic] not used by the Roman Mint till Many Yeares after in the very declention of the Empire."'
