-Lettre du 30 avril 1762 (d’Aix) : « L’ouvrage de M. Pellerin m’a fait un plaisir infini. J’ai grande envie qu’il tienne la parole qu’il vous a donnée et qu’il publie les médailles des villes. Cela va répandre un nouveau jour sur cette partie de l’histoire ancienne qui est presque en friche. A propos des médailles le hasard m’en a procuré une ces jours passés, qui paraît curieuse. Je ne crois pas qu’elle ait été publiée jusqu’à maintenant. C’est Caligula au revers d’Auguste en argent. C. caesar aug. Germ. L.M. Tr. Pot. Cos. Caput caji caligulae nudum sceptro ad collum transverso revers sine epigraphe caput augusti radiatum septemque stellis circumdatum. Il y a une médaille grecque qui a beaucoup de rapport à celle-là, mais je ne crois pas qu’on en connut de latine avec les 7 étoiles.
