Lettre du 30 octobre 1748 (de Modène): "Avendo un amico mio osservato nella biblioteca de' mss. del P. Montfaucon, che nell'Ambrosiana si conserva un trattato Volusii Maesiani de rebus monetariis, mi ha pregato di scrivere a V. S. illustrissima, acciocché ella voglia avere la bontà di trovarlo, e di significarmi se sia antico, o pur, come io vo sospettando, moderno autore e di quali monete tratti, se antiche o moderne. Quando delle prime si può credere che sia autore del 1500, siccome ancora se sia libro di poca o molta mole. L'amico suddetto è dietro a scrivere delle monete de' tempi bassi, e potrebbe tal notizia giovargli. Le resterò io sommamente tenuto per questo favore. [...]" (Campori 1907 vol.
