-Lettre du 10 octobre 1716 (de Vienne) : à propos du cabinet de l’empereur à Vienne : « Je fus étonnée que le cabinet des Médailles fût si mal pourvu, je n’en vis pas une de quelque valeur, & on les garde dans le plus grand désordre. Quant aux Antiques, il en très-peu qui méritent ce titre. Comme je disais qu’elles étaient modernes, je ne pus m’empêcher de rire à la réponse du profond antiquaire qui les montrait; il me déclara qu’elles étaient assez anciennes, car de sa propre connoissance, il y avait quarante ans qu’elles se trouvoient là. » (Montagu 1763, Lettre XIII, p ; 50 et Halsband 1977, I, p. 278-279 - info : Guy Meyer).
