-Lettre du 20 septembre 1561 (de Paris) : « It may further please your Ma.te Mr Secretary wrote to me of late to know the lowest price of the xii medalles of the xii Emporurs of Roome, whereof I have written to your Ma.te and so hath Vergetius. And readvertise your Mate thereof. I have //// with the merchant that owneth (?) them. And after many demands, the lowest price therof is six hundred crownes of the sonne. He hath ben content to send them to your Mate to be by you seene. But hath me bound, to redelyver them unto him wthin two months next ensuing, or elles to pay him the said six hundred crownes. Which bill I have made him, the copy thereof I send your Matie herewith. And so do I send to your Mate by this bearer Somer your Servant, the said Medalles. Most humbly beseeching your Mate, that when you shall have seene them, and resolved to take or to leave them; knowing the price of them: your Mate will signifye your pleasure therein before the said two months expyre. For in case they be not redelyveried into the merchauntes hands wthin the said tyme: then doth he meane that Your Mate shall keepe them, and I compelled to pay him the said six hundred crownes for them. And in case your Matie determyne to have them for that price: It may please you to gyve ordre that the said Some may be paid heere in crownes, as the bill speaketh, wthin the same tyme of two months next /////// . Or elles retourned hither wth speede, before the tearme (?) expyre. » (Kew, The National Archives, SP 70/30 f.53, at 56v ; voir Burnett 2020).
