'Mons^r Colius me pardonnera, s'il luy plait, et Mons^r Gruterus aussy; ils sont un peu trop scrupuleux, s'ils doutent de la fidelité de l'inscription de L. Scipio, aprez qu'elle a esté examinée dans Rome par des personnes si exactes, comme sont le P. Sirmond et ledit sieur Aleandro. ... Je voudrois bien voir quelque eschantillon de ce qu’il [Cotton] a commencé de faire imprimer de ses monnoyes anglo-saxoniennes. ... Je vous prie d'avoir agreable que je baise les mains à Mons^r Colius. Je voudrais bien voir les doubtes qu'il fair sur l'inscription de L. Scipio et ses motifs, ensemble ceux de Mons^r Gruter pour les en esclaircir.'
