'one of the Honest Priests ask’d me if I would look at their Gallery they are two Brothers, both Priests, y^e Heirs to the late ingenious collector who was a Priest also, of very good family. The notion of which Gallery I smil’d at, but great was my astonishment at entering on seeing such an unexpected Collection, near 600 of the finest modern Medals whatever, about 1000 Antique, a vast number of other curiosity^s, a place never seen by any of our Travellers as none ever stops there even to see many fine paintings, in y^t melancholy, though once noted Town, so poor, and such protection does learning receive that a Seminary wou’d have purchas’d y^m but cant afford a little more yⁿ two hundred pound^s st, this shall seize upon although there is a monstrous Duty of £15 p^r cent.'
