Grand documentOriginal passage from the "Grand document".
Lettre du 5 janvier 1728 (de Messine) : Abstract: He can hardly expect that O. can derive profit from my letters which he can spend his time to much better account; his (C’s.) faith in O’s. great kindness is his excuse for writing. He retails the latest about Mons. Breval’s escapade with the nun Milan: next the latest about the Spanish demarche which tends towards hostilities. He is hard at work collecting coins of Sicily; and in the spring will enquire in Malta. He reminds O. of a topaz I bought here from a silver merchant and asks for O’s. instructions about purchasing gold and silver medals and stones (Oxford, Bodleian Library, MS D’Orville 487 f° 72-73).
