Grand documentOriginal passage from the "Grand document".

-Lettre du 28 décembre 1750 (de Smyrne): Abstract: He avers his unremitting zeal to contribute antiquities to O’s. magnificent collection in the shape of Greek and Latin NSS. and inscriptions; and Mons. Count Hochepied has promised replicas of two rare medals. The public owes you a debt for having brought out of obscurity Chariton Aphrodisiensis: I am impatient for your journey in Sicily. Would you like some of the intaglios and cameos which the peasants offer for sale? The French consul buys them up, good and bad; but I get first choice, the French nation being unpopular with the country people. (Oxford, Bodleian Library, MS D’Orville 487 f° 237-238).
