Lettre du 13 octobre 1685 (de Bologne): "Bellissima fu la reflessione fatta da Vostra Signoria Illustrissima nell'ultima sua, non essendo altro che una folta caligine, bastante a ritardare, se non a deviare, dal vero sentiero quello studio di lunga pratica che necessariamente convien farsi da chi vuol diventare intendente di antichità, e come se l'intelletto confuso assiduamente si raggira fra quelle oscure regole irregolari, è facile, a chi vi s'impegna, di non trovarne il termine che purtroppo da per se stesso è lontano" (Firenze, Archivio di Stato, MP, 3951; Fileti Mazza 1996, p. 362-363).
