Lettre du 26 janvier 1688 (de Paris): "L'altro articolo di questa lettera che mi porta l'avviso di tornarmene alla patria, e che Vostra Signoria Illustrissima si credeva dovermi riuscire spiacevole, l'ho sentito, per quello che concerne il ritorno, con gran quiete e maggior sodisfazione, rinunziando sin d'adesso alle grandiosità di questo paese, che appresso di me non hanno mai scancellato la memoria delle nostre piccole cose, né giammai mi averebbero allettato a vivere in un paese nel quale non so accomodarmi" (Firenze, Archivio di Stato, MP, 4826; Fileti Mazza 1996, p. 367).
