He mad manuscript notes in this copy, which again enable us to see him at work. On one occasion, we can trace Smith's procedure from his annotations in Tunstall, via his notebooks in Queens', to the text of OWRF. We can trace the process by which he built up his work, gradually adding more information, including some from Budé. Tunstall: Apud Romanos, dum floreret imperium: auri libra nummos aureos quadragenos octonos capiebat: quoru' singuli valebant denarios vicenos quinos. Ex his aurei quator unciam pendebant... (and later) apud nostrates Anglos: quoru' aurei quator, quos Nobiles Rosatos vulgo voca't<br> ("among the Romans, when the empire was flourishing, a pound of gold contained 48 aurei, each one of which was worth 25 denarii ... among our English ones, of which four aurei, which are commonly called Rose Nobles.")
