Grand documentOriginal passage from the "Grand document".

'Nostro Revdo mio Sigre (?)
Vostro
Pera 29 Gennaro S.I.(?) 1689/90
Sr Fro Benedetti'

(London, British Library, Add MS 72527, f.157; Burnett 2020b, p. 602)

['I am sorry for the delay in replying to your most kind letter of the last day of November which brought me the good news of your safe arrival at Smyrna. I am sure that, in your stay there, your curiosity will find the opportunity to see various medals and other antiquities, and, if in your enquiries some occasion will arise to fill the gaps in those which I have collected, you would give me pleasure if you gave them to our Consul [Raye]. Since I have always had a high opinion of virtuous persons like you, I will take every opportunity to let you know that I am Yours. Pera, 29 January 1689/90' (translation from Burnett 2020b, p. 602)]
