'In the morning, I called on Sir A. Fountain; who shewed me his English Coins and Medals in proper Classes of Turkey-leather, at 3s. a piece. Amongst these he has a fair Sett of Gold-pieces: And, in the middle of these, a massy Medal (of about 40 Guineas in Weight) given him by Princess Sophia; with her Head, on one side, and an Inscription giveing her Titles and notifying the time of her being Nominated Successor to the English Crown, and (on the other) the Head of our Maud the Empress, from whom the House of Hannover derived their Descent. He shewed me a Shilling of Charles the first (for so the Inscription calls it) with a fair pourtraicture of his father King James. He likewise produced, in Mediobarbus’s Edition of Occo, two of Hadrian’s Coins nearly resembling mine with the Britannia. He supposes all those of Carausius and Allectus to have been struck here; and most of ’em in London.'
