'Halifax 24^o August 1669

I pceive by Mr Hynde yo^r busynes was great y^t y^ecould not have y^e leasure in my last to /// me but now according unto my p’misse have sent you here enclosed a catalogue of all my Coynes & tho’ I mention but one of a sorte I have more \of some/ of them & wther you like or desire any if you please to give it a prick through with a pin at y^e end of it. If I have more on y^t stampe I will send it you y^e next iourney, or els pence(?) it you csten new in silv^r: & therfor desire this enclosed catalogue to be sent me back againe.
The 4^th may last I sent you 10 silver pieces viz.

'The letter is accompanied by a page listing the coins. The list is headed ‘all silver Roman pieces’, and then includes (by type) Vitellius (4), Vespasian and Titus (27), Domitian (20), Nerva (7) and Trajan (13). Quantities had been added to the left of each entry, but they cannot be seen for the left-hand column, since the binding is too tight; there was, however, a total of 43 coins for Domitian. Combined with his letter it shows that Brearcliffe must have got hold of a very large second-century hoard of Roman denarii. The piece of paper includes two more group of coins. The first is ‘Silver pieces more’: 17 assorted coins from Antony LEG XV to Honorius. The second is of Roman bronze coins: ‘In Large Brass Roman first magnitude’ (Burnett 2020b, p. 708)
