Grand documentOriginal passage from the "Grand document".

'Busy all the morning writing a letter signed PATINA ANTIQUARIOR for the London Chronicle; relating to a gold medal of great singularity & beauty, & of old & the finest Italian workmanship, reppresenting the Bust of a man in armour, [Sir John Hawkwood, an English Knight] sold the last winter, at the sale of the effects of the late Mr Angel Carmey & knocked down, not to me who intended to bid high for it, but to Mr Pinchbeck, Toyman, by an accident, who disposed of it, it seems, to the Princess of Wales.' (Harvard University, Houghton Library, MS Eng 1191)
