« Quindi, nel mentre che tiro avanti il catalogo delle antiche medaglie, vado disponendo la distribuzione delle monete le quali sono attualmente collocate in confuso, e fuori d'ordine. Mio pensiero è adunque di disporle per ordine geografico, e cronologico partendo da quelle di Firenze, perché di queste ve ne sono assai, e perché è giusto che il museo principi a fare la sua comparsa dalle merci del proprio paese. In alcune ore adunque mi tratterrò intorno a quest'oggetto per lavorare in due luoghi due cose alla volta, come usava il proposto Muratori, che perciò tanto scrisse, e tanto faticò quanto è possibile che uomo faccia.» (BNCF, N.A. 1050, Efemeridi, s.
