-20 sept. 1789: "Questo giovane povero, e senza impiego se ne andò in Sicilia alla ventura, e fu raccolto dal principe di Biscari ove coltivò l’antiquaria, e la storia naturale. Poi passò in Levante, e molto si è trattenuto in Costantinopoli, di dove viene. Egli ha stampate varie lettere, ed ha preparate altre cose come i suoi Viaggi, la Storia del golfo di Costantinopoli, una Flora bizantina, un trattato del giardinaggio turco ecc., ma non scrive bene. La casa Renuccini gli dà degli aiuti, e pare che mercanteggi. Ha un’aria franca e naturale”
